Video: Microsoft Speech Recognition and Machine Translation

This semester I’m taking a course in Machine Translation, a fascinating application of artificial intelligence and machine learning. I ran across this video from Microsoft Research, giving a short historical overview of Machine Translation, and demoing an end-to-end system that recognizes speech, translates it, and speaks back the translation in the user’s voice. While the video is non-technical, the speaker briefly mentions that the system uses deep neural nets. It’s a quick and exciting watch.
